Step 1: Get the specification text

Spec books come in PDF format from the architect or document management system (Procore, Bluebeam Studio, etc.). To analyze them:

If PDF is text-based (most modern specs): Open in Adobe Acrobat, select all text (Ctrl+A), copy, paste into a text editor
If PDF is scanned/image: Use Bluebeam's OCR function (Document → OCR) to make it text-searchable first
You don't need the entire book. Start with the division(s) most relevant to your current concern
